Terms and Conditions of Service

Best advice

Advice is given in good faith and it is always your decision to accept guidance on whether to keep or dispose of specific possessions. The Space Creator cannot accept responsibility for the consequences of such decisions. Occasionally, we may handle items with a potentially high market value. While we will always endeavour to identify such items amongst your possessions, you acknowledge that we are not valuers, nor do we have the expertise to identify items of special value or rarity, nor are we qualified to advise on valuation matters for insurance purposes.

Deposits & Home Consultations

1 hour home consultations are charged at our hourly rate of £50, payable at the end of the visit. If you go on to book a package, this will be subtracted from your session invoice, making the consultation free. Any time passed one hour will be charged as standard. 

The Space Creator requires a deposit before confirming the first session and providing services. The standard deposit is 50% and is payable at the time of booking. Your deposit will be taken off the invoice amount; it is not an extra charge to you. However, all or parts may be non-refundable if cancelling within 48 hours. Your session is not confirmed until the 50% deposit has been received by The Space Creator, at which point you will receive an email confirmation. 

FEES & Payment Terms

Charges for our services will be levied per hour. An invoice will be issued and payable within 48 hours of completion of the session by means of physical card payment at the end of the session, card via the Stripe “pay now” button on the electronic invoice, or bank transfer using the bank details shown on the invoice. All charges shall be payable upon invoice as set out above. Interest at 2% per week will be charged on any balance due, which remains unpaid 7 days after receiving the invoice. 

You may choose to book your sessions directly into our diary via the booking calendar: www.thespacecreator.co.uk/booking-calendar/ where you may pay in full to secure your session. If you are planning multiple sessions, you may prefer to purchase a 24-hour block to save time and effort. In this case, you will select the slot for the first session, and we will manually book the following sessions.

Confidentiality and Privacy

The Space Creator is a professional service. We will never divulge client information to third parties, nor any personal and/or business details that we may be privy to through our work with you. As a member of the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office), we are aware of relevant privacy regulations. Therefore, all detail and information regarding the client’s personal and business life and possessions will be kept completely confidential.

The only way your situation may be mentioned to others is in the context of our own services, where it will be entirely depersonalised and unidentifiable (e.g. “a client in Oxfordshire”). It is helpful to give examples to other clients of how particular situations can be addressed. For example: how long it took to deal with a room of a certain size, the furniture used for storage, and the solutions we found while working together.

Similarly, testimonials are welcomed for use on the website and/or social media, as they can help others to make a more informed decision about whether The Space Creator might be the right choice for them. Please note that these will only be used with your permission, and personal details will not appear.

Insurance

We hold full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance cover for our services. While we will always handle your possessions with great care and consideration, accidents may happen. We shall not be liable for damage or losses and ask that you have appropriate and current insurance policies that compensate you adequately.

The Space Creator is a member of APDO UK (The Association of Professional DeClutterers and Organisers) and abides by their Code of Ethics: https://www.apdo.co.uk/code-of-ethics/

Cancellation

Both you and The Space Creator have the right to cancel the contract due to unforeseen circumstances. Travel charges or further expenses paid in advance, for which we cannot obtain refunds, are not refundable in any circumstances and will be invoiced to you at the time of cancellation. Cancelling within 48 hours will result in a charge of 50% of the session fee. Cancelling within 24 hours will result in a charge of 100% of the session fee covering loss of work. If you postpone, or for matters entirely out of your control, the charge may be waived at our discretion.

Hours of Work

You will be charged for hours worked. Time passed the hours agreed will be charged at our hourly rate of £50, in 15-minute increments. For example, if we finish at 5.15 pm, you may be charged an additional £12.50. While a booking will generally be made for a pre-agreed number of hours, it’s understood that it is not always possible to anticipate exactly how long will be needed due to the nature of the job. If, for whatever reason, you choose to end the session early, for example, needing to attend an appointment, you will be invoiced for the pre-agreed session rate, i.e. a full-day booked will be a full-day rate.

Breaks

If a session covers lunchtime, we will bring lunch with us, allowing for up to 30 minutes. You will not be charged for lunch breaks. For example, if the session is 10-4 pm and we take 30 minutes for lunch, we’ll finish at 4.30 pm. We’ll need to break occasionally for a few minutes to hydrate and for you to pace yourself. These short breaks are included within the session time. You do not need to host us; we will take lunch off-site allowing all parties to decompress and re-energise.

Limits of Work & Job Length

The Space Creator will do all we can to help you achieve the state of organisation and tidiness you desire. We are happy to help you with light cleaning, as appropriate, during the session and happy to help you relocate items to more appropriate physical locations. However, we will not attempt heavy lifting or moving, for example, a washing machine or heavy furniture. We work fast, but there is only so much one can do; if additional tasks or areas are added during the session, please understand that the initial time quoted will no longer be accurate and additional sessions may be required. If The Space Creator has estimated a job length based on working with the client and the client, for whatever reason, cannot help during the session, it will take longer. Decluttering and organising aren’t always straightforward; things tend to crop up, particularly when it comes to decluttering, and it is not always possible to give an exact time quotation. If a job is likely to take longer than the client has budgeted, we will establish the highest priority and work on this first.

Removal of Items

Items to be removed by The Space Creator from your premises, either for disposal or to other locations, including charity shops, must be at your own discretion. The disposal will not take place without your authorisation. Within all full-day and half-day packages, we can take up to 1 car bootload of charity items away with me after our session.

We will not take rubbish or recycling, though we can provide the bags. If needed, we can arrange for a skip-hire and liaise with the company; this will be charged at our hourly rate or organised during your session. Additionally, we have contacts for storage and rubbish clearance companies. You agree that we disclose your name and address details to the relevant company, who will invoice you directly.

Personal Respect & Safety

The Space Creator appreciates that strong feelings can arise during decluttering sessions. However, to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all involved, any form of physical or verbal abuse, rudeness or false accusations is unacceptable.

In the event that such behaviour occurs, the session may be terminated, and any funds paid, including those for current and future sessions, may be forfeited.

Session Logistics

During decluttering sessions, The Space Creator and the client will work together for the duration. Organising and storage jobs may be carried out by The Space Creator alone or with the client. When I arrive, we will briefly discuss what you aim to achieve during the session and exchange signed terms and conditions. Please ensure that you have read the Terms & Conditions before my arrival. To allow enough time to make good progress, this will generally last no longer than 15 minutes. We will end the session 15 minutes early, allowing time to pack up, debrief, discuss progress, take payment and say goodbye. If you need longer for this, please make The Space Creator aware.

Out-of-Session Contact & General Response Time

The session fee does not include general out-of-session contact or advice. Often, those quick questions take time and consideration to respond to. Lengthy messages and emails are tricky to manage in a timely fashion. I care immensely about every client, but I ask that you respect my time and stick to business. I offer virtual declutter coaching services and an online membership, The Club, if you need more support on top of in-home sessions. My work hours are Tuesday-Friday, 9-5 pm, and I will respond within 24 hours, providing your request is relevant and business-related.

Selling of items

The Space Creator does not offer the selling of items as a standard service because oftentimes, it is not cost- effective for the client, as it is time-consuming for me to list items, respond to potential buyer questions and liaise between the client and buyer. For exceptional circumstances where I agree to sell for a client, the time will be charged at my hourly rate. If The Space Creator is required to be on-site to meet the buyer or help remove items, time and mileage will be charged. Storage Planning & Design

For additional bespoke storage planning and design, including built-in cupboards, wardrobes, and room layout designs, I offer a virtual service charged at my hourly rate. Links and designs will be sent to you by email within an agreed timescale. When booking The Space Creator for organising sessions where any storage is required, a home consultation must be booked in advance of the session, allowing time for the purchase of products. Should you require The Space Creator to collect any storage products not available to purchase online, time and mileage will be charged at my hourly rate.

Photographs & Social Media

The Space Creator will take before and after pictures of each area we work in. This is for several reasons, including insurance purposes, to refer back to when planning for storage and, most importantly, for you to see the difference in photographs and in person. These photos are only ever seen by The Space Creator and kept in secure digital files and passcode-protected mobile devices.

However, if you grant permission, we may ask to use some of these images for social media and/or, this website. We will never do this without prior permission. We will never tag you or use locations, names or addresses in these posts. Neither will we use any images that could compromise your privacy to the general public, for example, the front of your house or images with family photographs in the background.

If you have a social media presence and would actively like The Space Creator to tag you in a social media post, please make us aware. However, we cannot guarantee when a particular post will go live. 

NB

A signed contract is required before the start of any session, with no exceptions. You will be emailed a copy of the contract to sign prior to your first session with The Space Creator. 

If you have previously worked with The Space Creator and have therefore signed these Terms of Service, you do not need to sign them again, unless we inform you of an update.
